Abstract
This research is motivated by the phenomenon of the formation and acquisition of the masculine gender identity of the main character in the novel "Nyai Gowok" by Budi Sardjono, influenced by various factors. The novel tells the story of Bagus Sasongko, a teenage boy who undergoes the tradition of nyantrik with a Gowok named Nyai Lindri to train his knowledge about the world of women and develop the traditional stereotype known as lelananging jagad. The research questions are: (1) How is the process of acquiring the masculine gender identity of the main character in the novel "Nyai Gowok" by Budi Sardjono? The purpose of this research is to: (1) Describe the process of acquiring the masculine gender identity of the main character in the novel "Nyai Gowok" by Budi Sardjono. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques including literature study, reading, and note-taking. The validity of the data is checked using theory triangulation and investigator triangulation. The research data consists of dialogue texts from the novel "Nyai Gowok" by Budi Sardjono that describe the formation of the main character's masculine gender identity. Five factors influencing the main character's masculine gender identity were identified based on Judith Butler's Performativity of Gender theory, with a total of 55 analyzed data points, including: (1) Performative gender as an action or deed (7 data points), (2) Gender as a result of social practice (15 data points), (3) Performative gender as a continuous process (12 data points), (4) Gender construction through representation (15 data points), and (5) Gender as a result of power and social structure (6 data points). The data analysis results show that the main character's masculine gender identity is formed, created, and reconstructed through these five factors, rather than being naturally acquired from birth. Novel ini berkisah tentang Bagus Sasongko, seorang remaja laki-laki yang menjalankan tradisi nyantrik kepada seorang Gowok yang bernama Nyai Lindri untuk melatih pengetahuannya tentang dunia wanita, dan membentuk sifat stereotip tradisional yang dikenal dengan istilah lelananging jagad. Pertanyaan penelitian ini (1). Bagaimana proses pemerolehan identitas gender maskulin pada tokoh utama dalam novel Nyai Gowok karya Budi Sardjono? Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1). Mendeskripsikan proses pemerolehan identitas gender maskulin pada tokoh utama dalam novel Nyai Gowok karya Budi Sardjono. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa studi pustaka, baca, dan catat. Teknik pemeriksaan keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi teori dan triangulasi penyidik. Data penelitian berupa dialog percakapan yang berupa teks dari novel Nyai Gowok karya Budi Sardjono yang menggambarkan tentang pembentukan identitas gender maskulin tokoh utama. Ditemukan lima faktor yang mempengaruhi identitas gender maskulin tokoh utama berdasarkan teori Performaive of Gender Judith Butler, dengan total 55 data yang dianalisis, diantaranya: (1) Performative gender sebagai sebuah aksi atau tindakan 7 data. (2) Gender sebagai hasil dari praktik sosial 15 data. (3) Performative gender sebagai suatu proses yang berkelanjutan 12 data. (4) Kontruksi gender melalui representasi 15 data. (5) Gender sebagai hasil dari kekuasaan dan struktur sosial 6 data. Hasil analisis data menunjukan bahwa identitas gender maskulin tokoh utama dibentuk, diciptakan, dan direkontruksi melalui 5 faktor tersebut, dan bukan diperoleh secara alamiah sejak lahir.
