Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of describing the numeracy skills of class VII students their difficulties in solving the minimum competency assessment (AKM) test. The research subjects were 35 students of class VIII A at SMP Islam Baidhaul Ahkam in the academic year 2023/2024. Research instrumen obtained through written tests and interviews. This type of research uses descriptive research methods with a qualitative approach. The study gives the results that the dominant student’s numeracy ability is at a low level with a percentage of 63%. Meanwhile, 23% of students with moderate numeracy abilities and the remaining 14% are at a high numeracy abilities. From each level of numeracy ability, 10 students were selected as interview subjects, namely 3 high ability students, 3 medium ability students, and 4 low ability students. The conclusion is that students show a good understanding of the material being taught, while others have difficulty understanding the concepts being taught. The greatest difficulties arise in applying mathematical problem solving strategies, especially in identifying relevant information, linking it to appropriate formulas or concepts, and making accurate conclusions. Students also experience difficulty in understanding mathematics problems well, which indicates the need for additional support from teachers and parents. Therefore, it is important to use diverse and interactive learning approaches in order to meet students' learning needs in an effective way.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan numerasi peserta didik kelas VIII dan kesulitannya dalam menyelesaikan soal Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum (AKM). Subjek penelitian adalah 35 peserta didik kelas VIII A SMP Islam Baidhaul Ahkam tahun ajaran 2023/2024. Instrumen penelitian diperoleh melalui tes tertulis dan wawancara. Jenis penelitian menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Penelitian ini memberikan hasil bahwa kemampuan numerasi peserta didik dominan berada pada level rendah dengan persentase sebesar 63%. Sedangkan 23% siswa dengan kemampuan numerasi sedang dan sisanya yaitu 14% berada pada tingkat kemampuan numerasi tinggi. Dari tiap tingkatan kemampuan numerasi tersebut dipilih 10 siswa sebagai subjek wawancara yaitu 3 siswa kemampuan tinggi, 3 siswa kemampuan sedang, dan 4 siswa kemampuan rendah. Kesimpulan yaitu peserta didik menunjukkan pemahaman yang baik terhadap materi yang diajarkan, sementara yang lainnya mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami konsep yang diajarkan. Kesulitan terbesar muncul dalam menerapkan strategi pemecahan masalah matematika, terutama dalam mengidentifikasi informasi yang relevan, mengaitkannya dengan rumus atau konsep yang tepat, dan membuat kesimpulan yang akurat. Peserta didik juga mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami soal matematika dengan baik, yang menunjukkan adanya kebutuhan akan dukungan tambahan dari guru maupun orang tua. Oleh karena itu, penting untuk menggunakan pendekatan pembelajaran yang beragam dan interaktif agar memenuhi kebutuhan belajar peserta didik dengan cara yang efektif.
