Abstract

This research is aimed to describing process of improving students’ writing recount text and to find out the improvement of students’ writing recount text at Eight grade of SMP N 14 Kota Serang. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as a research methodology. The researcher used Pre-test and post-test to collect the quantitative data. Meanwhile, the researcher used observation sheet and documentation to collect the qualitative data. This research was conducted in two cycles which consisted of two meetings in every cycle. The procedure of each cycle consists of planning, acting observing and reflecting. This research was conducted at eight grade of SMP N 14 Kota Serang in academic year of 2017/2018 that consists of 30 students. The research instrument of this research was observation sheet and written test. The research found out whether mind mapping as a technique could improve the students’ writing recount text. in the first cycle, the average of pretest was 48.53, and average of Post-test 1was 72.03. The second cycle, the average of Post-test 2 was 80.00. The research found that the students got an improvement in writing. In conclusion, mind mapping as a technique of teaching learning process could improve students’ writing recount text at eight grade of SMPN 14 Kota Serang.
