Abstract

Reading is an all-important language skill that is now in more demand than in any time in our history. With the exposure of the Internet in a global arena, students need to master reading in order to understand the vast knowledge the world embraces them with. It has been said that the literate adult today is reading more in one week than their great-grandfather did in a whole year. From the background above, it is necessary for the researcher to improve reading skills in English language learning into a better direction through narrative text as media in English reading comprehension skills. This media can improve students’vocabulary reading comprehension on narrative text. The researcher conducted a Classroom Action Research (CAR ). Classroom Action Research (CAR ) is a qualitative research which consisted of cycles. The first cycle was the application of picture for teaching reading especially narrative text, and the next cycle was the revision of the previous cycle. This research consisted of two cycles with four meeting for each cycle; two meetings for giving treatment and two for the pre test and post test.The research startedthe cycle of the meeting at27 th rd January until 3 February 2015. The subjects of the research were the students of class VIII A of Mts Zainabiayah academic years 2014-2015. As the conclusion, the process of teaching students vocabulary through narrative textwas interesting and having positive responses from the students. It can be seen from the students’ enthusiastic in teaching and learning process while the students achievement also improved from 68.57 in cycle one and 75.71 in cycle two, means that there was an improvement for students achievement from cycle one improved 14.64 % and cycle two improved 7.14%
