Abstract

This study aims to examine whether the relationships between each latent variable in existing theories are proven to have a positive influence and to determine the significance of the influence between these variables. This research is a quantitative study using a survey method. The variables addressed in this study are mathematical literacy skills (variable Y), adversity quotient (variable X1), and students' learning motivation (variable X2) as a mediating variable. The population in this study comprises middle school students in Cilegon City, while the sample was selected based on accreditation using the Slovin formula, totaling 390 students from both public and private middle schools accredited A, B, and C. Data collection techniques included test instruments to measure students' mathematical literacy levels and non-test instruments in the form of questionnaires to measure adversity quotient and learning motivation. The collected data were then analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the help of Lisrel 8.8 software. The results of this study indicate that (1) there is a positive and significant influence of the adversity quotient on the mathematical literacy skills of middle school students in Cilegon City, (2) there is a positive and significant influence of learning motivation on the mathematical literacy skills of middle school students in Cilegon City, (3) there is a positive and significant influence of the adversity quotient on the learning motivation of middle school students in Cilegon City, (4) there is a positive and significant influence of the adversity quotient on mathematical literacy skills through the learning motivation of middle school students in Cilegon City. This study finds that the indirect effect of the adversity quotient on mathematical literacy skills, with learning motivation as a mediator, is greater than the direct effect of the adversity quotient on the mathematical literacy skills of middle school students in Cilegon City.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji apakah keterkaitan dari tiap variabel laten pada teori-teori yang sudah ada terbukti memiliki pengaruh positif dan mengetahui berapa besar signifikansi pengaruh antar variabel tersebut terjadi. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode survey. Variabel yang diangkat dalam penelitian ini adalah kemampuan literasi matematis (variabel Y), adversity quotient (variabel X1), dan motivasi belajar siswa (variabel X2¬) sekaligus menjadi variabel mediasi (intervening variable). Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa SMP di Kota Cilegon, sedangkan sampel dipilih berdasarkan akreditasi menggunakan rumus slovin sebanyak 390 siswa dari sekolah SMP negeri ataupun swasta yang terakreditasi A,B, dan C. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan instrumen tes untuk mengukur tingkat kemampuan literasi matematis siswa dan non-tes berupa angket untuk mengukur adversity quotient dan motivasi belajar siswa. Data yang sudah terkumpul kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan structural equation model (SEM) berbantuan aplikasi Lisrel 8.8. Hasil yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (1) terdapat pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan adversity quotient terhadap kemampuan literasi matematis siswa SMP di kota Cilegon, (2) terdapat pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan motivasi belajar terhadap kemampuan literasi matematis siswa SMP di kota Cilegon, (3) terdapat pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan adversity quotient terhadap motivasi belajar siswa SMP di kota Cilegon, (4) terdapat pengaruh positif dan signifikan adversity quotient terhadap kemampuan literasi matematis melalui motivasi belajar siswa SMP di kota Cilegon. Hasil penelitian ini melihat temuan bahwa pengaruh tidak langsung adversity quotient terhadap kemampuan literasi matematis dengan motivasi belajar sebagai mediator, lebih besar daripada pengaruh langsung adversity quotient terhadap kemampuan literasi matematis siswa SMP di Kota Cilegon.
