Abstract
This research is motivated by the problem of the role of peers and social adaptation in Papuan students who take part in the secondary education affirmation program (ADEM) at SMK PGRI 1 Serang City. The aim of this research is to determine the socio-cultural adaptation process of students who take part in the ADEM Program and to determine the role of peers in supporting and accompanying the socio-cultural adaptation process of students from the ADEM Papua Program at SMK PGRI 1 Serang City. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Collecting informant data used the purposive method. The background to this research was carried out at SMK PGRI 1 Serang City. This data collection method was carried out using in-depth interviews. The data validity test was carried out using the source triangulation method. The data analysis technique uses three flows, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the research show that Papuan students of the secondary education affirmation program (ADEM) at SMK PGRI 1 Serang City can adapt to new environments, and their peers support every activity carried out by Papuan students with the aim of making it easier for Papuan students to adapt to Serang City. The supporting factors for Papuan students who take part in the education affirmation program (ADEM) are motivated by the peer environment and school facilities, as well as the desire of Papuan students to adapt to a new environment. The experiences and challenges received were that the first time Papuan students came to school, they experienced discrimination and also language differences which caused difficulties in communicating with the environment in Serang City.

Additional Information: | Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permasalahan peran teman sebaya dan adaptasi sosial pada peserta didik Papua yang mengikuti program afirmasi pendidikan menengah (ADEM) di SMK PGRI 1 Kota Serang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui proses adaptasi sosial budaya peserta didik yang mengikuti Program ADEM dan mengetahui peranan teman sebaya dalam dalam mendukung dan mendampingi proses adaptasi sosial budaya peserta didik Papua Program ADEM di SMK PGRI 1 Kota Serang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Pengambilan data informan menggunakan metode purposive. Latar penelitian ini dilakukan di SMK PGRI 1 Kota Serang. Metode pengumpulan data ini dilakukan dengan wawancara yang mendalam. Uji keabsahan data dilakukan dengan metode triangulasi sumber. Teknik analisis data menggunakan tiga alur yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data (display data), dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa peserta didik Papua program afirmasi pendidikan menengah (ADEM) di SMK PGRI 1 Kota Serang dapat beradaptasi dengan lingkungan baru, serta teman sebaya mendukung setiap kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh peserta didik Papua tujuannya untuk mempermudah peserta didik Papua dalam beradaptasi di Kota Serang. Faktor pendukung peserta didik Papua yang mengikuti program afirmasi pendidikan (ADEM) dilatarbelakangi oleh lingkungan teman sebaya, dan fasilitas sekolah, serta adanya keinginan peserta didik Papua untuk beradaptasi di lingkungan baru. Pengalaman dan tantangan yang diterima yaitu pertama kali datang ke sekolah peserta didik Papua pernah mendapatkan diskriminasi dan juga adanya perbedaan bahasa yang menyebabkan kesulitan dalam komunikasi dengan lingkungan di Kota Serang. | |||||||||
