Abstract
This research aims to determine the application of the problem based learning model using mathematical puzzle media to increase students' understanding of class IV mathematics at SDN Tembong 2. The research method used is quasi-experimental with a nonquivalent control group research design. There are two classes in this research, namely the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class consisting of 30 students was given learning treatment by applying a problem based learning model assisted by mathematical puzzles and the control class consisting of 29 students was treated with a conventional learning model. Data collection was obtained from test instruments in the form of pretest and posttest. Data analysis uses descriptive statistics and research statistics. The results obtained were that the increase in understanding of students who were treated with the problem based learning model assisted by mathematical puzzle media was better with an average increase of 0.62 than the increase in understanding of students who were treated with the conventional model with an average of 0.12.
