Abstract

Indonesia has abundant quartz sand potential. The availability of quartz sand in Indonesia is influenced by the many coastal areas of rivers, beaches and lakes where quartz sand accumulates. However, Indonesia still relies on several countries such as China to import quartz sand raw materials for glass applications. This shows that local natural resources of quartz sand are still not being utilized properly. Apart from that, the natural resources of quartz sand are still not being utilized optimally so the selling value of quartz sand is low. Quartz sand needs to be processed using a hydrometallurgical method, namely leaching. The H2SO4 leaching process is carried out to remove impurities such as iron (Fe2O3) in quartz sand. The results of the H2SO4 leaching process were a decrease in Fe2O3 levels and an increase in SiO2 levels from 4.031% to 3.02% and 85.68% to 87.269%, respectively. Next, the Brito leaching process was carried out on the H2SO4 leaching residue to determine the effect of Brito detergent on quartz sand leaching. The research variables in the Brito leaching process are variations in Brito concentration (20, 25, 30, 35, and 40%), S/L ratio (1:3, 1:4, and 1:5), and leaching process temperature (50, 60, and 70oC). The research results show that there is an influence of using Brito in the quartz sand leaching process to separate impurities such as Fe. The best conditions for the Brito leaching process variable are conditions of 40% concentration, S/L ratio of 1:5, and temperature of 25oC. The experimental results show that there is an increase in SiO2 levels from 87.269% in the H2SO4 leaching residue to 90.982% in the Brito leaching residue. and a decrease in Fe2O3 levels from 3.02% in the H2SO4 leaching residue to 2.011% in the Brito leaching residue.

Additional Information: Indonesia memiliki banyak sekali potensi pasir kuarsa. Pasir kuarsa tersedia dalam jumlah besar di Indonesia salah satunya dipengaruhi oleh banyaknya daerah pesisir sungai, pantai serta danau yang merupakan tempat terakumulasinya pasir kuarsa. Namun, Indonesia masih mengandalkan beberapa negara seperti Cina pada impor bahan baku pasir kuarsa untuk aplikasi kaca. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa sumber daya alam pasir kuarsa lokal masih belum dimanfaatkan dengan baik. Selain itu sumber daya alam pasir kuarsa masih belum diaplikasikan dengan maksimal sehingga nilai jual pasir kuarsa rendah. Pasir kuarsa perlu diolah menggunakan metode hidrometalurgi yaitu leaching. Proses leaching H¬2SO4 dilakukan untuk menghilangkan pengotor seperti besi (Fe2O3) pada pasir kuarsa. Hasil dari proses leaching H2SO4 terdapat penurunan kadar Fe2O3 dan kenaikan kadar SiO2 masing-masing dari 4,031% menjadi 3,02% dan 85,68% menjadi 87,269%. Selanjutnya, dilakukan proses leaching brito pada residu hasil leaching H2SO4 untuk megetahui pengaruh dari deterjen brito pada leaching pasir kuarsa. Variabel penelitian pada proses leaching brito yaitu variasi konsentrasi brito (20, 25, 30, 35, dan 40%), rasio S/L (1:3, 1:4, dan 1:5), dan temperatur proses leaching (50, 60, dan 70oC). Pada penelitian ini hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh penggunaan brito pada proses leaching pasir kuarsa untuk memisahkan pengotor seperti Fe. Kondisi terbaik pada variabel proses leaching brito yaitu pada kondisi konsentrasi 40%, rasio S/L 1:5, dan temperatur 25oC, hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan kadar SiO2 dari 87,269% pada residu hasil leaching H2SO4 menjadi 90,982% pada residu hasil leaching brito dan penurunan kadar Fe2O3 dari 3,02% pada residu hasil leaching H2SO4 menjadi 2,011% pada residu hasil leaching brito.
