Abstract

This research was motivated by the difficulties of class IX students at SMP Negeri 14 Serang City in working on geometry material, causing many students to make mistakes in solving contextual problems on geometry material. So this research was carried out with the aim of analyzing student errors in solving mathematical literacy test questions in the geometry domain according to Kastolan theory as well as the factors causing student errors. This type of research is a case study with a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects were 6 students in class IX A of SMPN 14 Serang City who experienced errors based on Kastolan theory. The instrument used in this research was a 5-question mathematical literacy test in the form of essay questions focusing on the geometry domain and an interview guide. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that conceptual errors occur when students experience errors in applying the formula to find the volume of a cylinder, incorrectly determine the height of a triangle with the height of a pyramid, errors in applying the concept of the Pythagorean theorem, errors in writing units of area and volume. Procedural errors occur when one is unable to manipulate the solution steps to find the length of the side using the formula for the area of a square and the perimeter of a square, and is unable to explain the solution for the volume of a cylinder. Technical errors occur when students experience errors in adding up the total area of the kiosks combined, errors in calculating the total length of lights on the upright side of a triangle, errors in calculating the product of determining the length of the side of a square, failure to write down the final conclusion, errors in decimal multiplication operations, failure to provide proof results true or false. Factors that cause students to make conceptual errors are not being able to generalize from one geometric concept to another geometric concept, students' habit of memorizing formulas, which causes a lack of understanding of the prerequisite concepts regarding squares, rectangles, cylinders and pyramids. Factors that cause students to make procedural errors are when they are unable to solve more complex questions such as application questions or in the form of stories, lack of practice on varied questions by combining several concepts. Factors that cause technical errors are lack of accuracy in working on questions, lack of understanding of the prerequisite material for calculating operations.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kesulitan siswa kelas IX SMP Negeri 14 Kota Serang dalam mengerjakan materi geometri, sehingga menyebabkan banyaknya siswa yang melakukan kesalahan dalam menyelesaikan soal kontekstual pada materi geometri. Maka penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk menganalisis kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal tes literasi matematis pada domain geometri menurut teori Kastolan serta faktor penyebab kesalahan siswa. Jenis penelitian ini adalah studi kasus dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek penelitian sebanyak 6 siswa kelas IX A SMPN 14 Kota Serang yang mengalami kesalahan berdasarkan teori Kastolan. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah soal tes literasi matematis sebanyak 5 soal yang berbentuk soal uraian berfokus pada domain geometri dan pedoman wawancara. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa pada kesalahan konseptual terjadi pada saat siswa mengalami kesalahan dalam menerapkan rumus mencari volume tabung, keliru menentukan tinggi segitiga dengan tinggi limas, kesalahan menerapkan konsep teorema Pythagoras, kesalahan menuliskan satuan luas dan volume. Pada kesalahan prosedural terjadi ketika tidak mampu memanipulasi langkah penyelesaian mencari panjang sisi dengan memanfaatkan rumus luas persegi dan keliling persegi, tidak mampu menjelaskan penyelesaian volume tabung. Pada kesalahan teknik terjadi ketika siswa mengalami kesalahan dalam menjumlah total luas kios yang digabungkan, kesalahan menghitung total panjang lampu pada sisi tegak segitiga, kesalahan menghitung hasil perkalian menentukan panjang sisi persegi, tidak menuliskan kesimpulan akhir, kesalahan operasi perkalian desimal, tidak mampu memberikan hasil pembuktian benar atau salah. Faktor penyebab siswa melakukan kesalahan konseptual adalah tidak mampu menggeneralisasi dari satu konsep ke konsep geometri lain, kebiasaan siswa menghafal rumus sehingga menyebabkan kurangnya pemahaman konsep prasyarat mengenai persegi, persegi panjang, tabung, dan limas. Faktor penyebab siswa melakukan kesalahan prosedural adalah ketika tidak mampu menyelesaikan soal yang lebih kompleks seperti soal penerapan atau berbentuk cerita, kurangnya latihan soal yang bervariasi dengan menggabungkan beberapa konsep. Faktor penyebab kesalahan teknik yaitu kurangnya ketelitian dalam mengerjakan soal, kurangnya pemahaman materi prasyarat operasi hitung.
