Abstract
The graphic design freelance profession among Gen-Z is increasingly in demand because of its flexibility and potential as a source of income. However, this profession faces challenges such as miscommunication with clients, unfair rate setting, and the risk of free-pitching practices. This research aims to describe the application of the freemium strategy in graphic design services, based on the social exchange theory by John Thibaut & Harold Kelley, which includes elements of sacrifice (cost) and elements of appreciation (reward). This research uses a qualitative approach to understand the topic of discussion in depth. The results of this research found that the element of sacrifice includes effort and effort which is an important foundation for the sustainability of a graphic design freelancer's career and determines working relationships with clients. The reward element is a reward for sacrifice, resulting in satisfaction, loyalty, and a sense of understanding in the working relationship with clients. And the freemium strategy has proven to be effective in building portfolios, building sustainable working relationships, and gaining financial benefits for graphic design freelancers.

| Additional Information: | Profesi freelancer desain grafis di kalangan Gen-Z semakin diminati karena fleksibilitas dan potensinya sebagai sumber penghasilan. Tetapi, profesi ini menghadapi tantangan seperti miskomunikasi dengan klien, penetapan tarif yang tidak adil, dan risiko praktik free-pitching. Penelitian ini bertujuan menguraikan penerapan strategi freemium dalam layanan jasa desain grafis, didasarkan dengan teori pertukaran sosial oleh John Thibaut & Harold Kelley, yang meliputi elemen pengorbanan (cost) dan elemen penghargaan (reward). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk memahami topik pembahasan secara mendalam, Hasil dari penelitian ini menemukan bahwa elemen pengorbanan mencakup upaya dan usaha yang menjadi fondasi penting untuk keberlangsungan karir freelancer desain grafis dan penentu hubungan kerja dengan klien. Elemen penghargaan menjadi imbalan atas pengorbanan, menghasilkan kepuasan, kesetiaan, dan rasa pengertian dalam hubungan kerja dengan klien. Dan strategi freemium terbukti efektif dalam membentuk portofolio, membangun relasi kerja berkelanjutan, dan memperoleh manfaat finansial bagi freelancer desain grafis. | |||||||||
