Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that Indonesia's mathematical literacy achievement is still relatively low. Indonesian students have not been able to understand concepts and apply their knowledge to solve problems in real-life contexts. Students' mathematical literacy skills must be trained and accustomed to mathematical problems that use context because the context is the first step of learning in understanding the mathematical model and concept itself This research aims to develop and see the potential impact of mathematical literacy instruments by using the context of traditional Banten games that are valid and realistic for junior high school students. The subject of this study is a student of SMP Negeri 1 Ciomas. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) Plomp model which consists of five stages, namely self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one, small group, and field test. This study produced eight PISA mathematical literacy instruments that were valid and realistic. The instruments developed have a potential impact seen from students' abilities in: 1) applying a simple context using a mixed calculation operation to find the percentage value; (2) using basic algorithms, formulas and procedures to solve problems; (3) follow the instructions that have been given in the form of pictures, tables and graphs clearly; (4) demonstrate a basic understanding of functional relationships as well as devise simple strategies to solve problems; (5) interpret sales data using graphs or tables that have been provided; (6) solve problems with undefined models obtained from reasoning skills; (7) formulating the average and communicating its arguments based on the results of the calculations obtained; and (8) have mastery of symbolic and formal mathematical operations and be able to explain the reasons for determining decision-making in relation to solutions and initial problems.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh capaian literasi matematis Indonesia masih tergolong rendah. Siswa Indonesia belum mampu memahami konsep dan menerapkan pengetahuannya untuk menyelesaikan masalah dalam konteks kehidupan nyata. Kemampuan literasi matematis siswa harus dilatih dan dibiasakan dengan soal matematika yang menggunakan konteks karena konteks itu sebagai langkah awal pembelajaran dalam memahami model dan konsep matematika itu sendiri Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan dan melihat dampak potensial instrumen literasi matematis dengan menggunakan konteks permainan tradisional Banten yang valid dan realibel untuk siswa SMP. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa SMP Negeri 1 Ciomas. Penelitian ini menggunakan model Research and Development (R&D) Plomp yang terdiri dari lima tahapan yaitu self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one, small group, dan field test. Penelitian ini menghasilkan delapan instrumen literasi matematis PISA serta valid dan realibel. Instrumen yang dikembangkan mempunyai dampak potensial dilihat dari kemampuan siswa dalam: (1) menerapkan konteks sederhana menggunakan operasi hitung campuran untuk mencari nilai persentase; (2) menggunakan algoritma dasar, rumus dan prosedur untuk menyelesaikan masalah; (3) mengikuti instruksi yang sudah diberikan dalam bentuk gambar, tabel maupun grafik dengan jelas; (4) menunjukkan pemahaman dasar tentang hubungan fungsional serta merancang strategi sederhana untuk memecahkan masalah; (5) menginterpretasikan data penjualan menggunakan grafik atau tabel yang sudah diberikan; (6) menyelesaikan masalah dengan model tidak terdefinisi yang diperoleh dari kemampuan bernalar; (7) memformulasikan rata-rata dan mengkomunikasikan argumennya berdasarkan hasil perhitungan yang diperoleh; dan (8) memiliki penguasaan operasi matematika simbolik dan formal serta dapat menjelaskan alasan penentuan pengambilan keputusan sehubungan dengan solusi dan permasalahan awal.
