Abstract

The most common work accident that occurs in nurses in hospitals is needle stick injury (NSI). NSI can cause the risk of transmission of infectious diseases such as Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). One of the factors affecting the incidence of NSI is nurse compliance in implementing safe injection practices. This study aims to determine the relationship between nurse compliance in implementing safe injection practices with the incidence of NSI in nurses at Banten Regional Hospital. This study used an analytic research design with a cross-sectional approach. The subjects in this study were nurses at Banten Hospital. The sampling technique in this study was simple random sampling with a total sample size of 56 samples. Data collection in this study used a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis in this study used the chi-square test. In this study as many as 20 respondents (35.7%) had experienced needle stick incidents. There is a significant relationship between compliance (p = 0.003) OR 0.161 (95% CI 0.48-0.544) with the incidence of NSI in nurses. Most of the nurse respondents at Banten Hospital did not experience needle stick incidents. There is a relationship between nurse compliance in implementing safe injection practices and the incidence of needle sticks in nurses at Banten Hospital.
