Abstract

Background: Screen time is considered to affect children's mental health. With the development of time, the use of gadgets and other electronic devices has become very high. Children who use excessive screen time have a higher risk of developing mental health problems compared to children with adequate screen time. Objective: To analyse the relationship between screen time and mental health problems in primary school children at SDI Al-Azhar 10 Serang. Methods: This study used a cross sectional design. The sample of this study was selected using stratified random sampling method in primary school students. Samples will be taken from the population that fulfils the inclusion criteria. Results: There is a relationship between screen time and mental health of elementary school children. As many as 72.6% of children who use screen time with high duration experience mental health disorders. There were 6 - 10 years old who had a score ≥13 or abnormal, namely 74 children or 51% and 11 years old who had a score ≥15, namely 20 children or 57.1%. Children with high screen time use have a 34.4 times greater risk of experiencing mental health disorders compared to children who use sufficient screen time. 28.5% of children with high screen time duration experienced emotional problems, 97.6% of children with high screen time duration experienced behavioral problems, 27.4% of children with high screen time duration experienced hyperactivity and 55.6% of children with high screen time experienced problems with their peers. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the history of screen time use and mental health in elementary school children at SDI Al-Azhar 10 Serang.

Additional Information: Latar belakang: Screen time dianggap mempengaruhi Kesehatan mental anak-anak. Seiring perkembangan jaman, penggunaan gawai dan alat elektronik lainnya menjadi sangat tinggi. Anak yang menggunakan screen time secara berlebihan mengalami risiko lebih tinggi terkena masalah Kesehatan mental dibandingkan dengan anak dengan screen time cukup. Tujuan: Menganalisis hubungan antara screen time dengan masalah kesehatan mental pada anak sekolah dasar di SDI Al-Azhar 10 Serang. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain cross sectional. Sampel penelitian ini dipilih menggunakan metode stratified random sampling pada murid sekolah dasar. Sampel akan diambil dari populasi yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi. Hasil: Terdapat hubungan screen time dengan Kesehatan mental anak sekolah dasar. Sebanyak 72,6% anak yang menggunakan screen time dengan durasi tinggi mengalami gangguan Kesehatan mental. Didapatkan usia 6 – 10 tahun yang memiliki skor ≥13 atau abnormal yaitu sebanyak 74 anak atau 51% dan usia 11 tahun yang memiliki skor ≥15 yaitu sebanyak 20 anak atau 57,1%. Anak dengan penggunaan screen time tinggi memiliki resiko 34,4 kali lebih besar mengalami gangguan kesehatan mental dibandingkan dengan anak yang menggunakan screen time cukup. 28,5% anak dengan durasi screen time tinggi mengalamin masalah emosional, 97,6% anak dengan durasi screen time tinggi mengalamin masalah perilaku, 27,4% anak dengan durasi screen time tinggi mengalami hiperaktivitas dan 55,6% anak dengan screen time yang tinggi mengalamin masalah dengan teman sebayanya Simpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara riwayat penggunaan screen time dengan kesehatan mental pada anak SD di SDI Al-Azhar 10 Serang.
