Abstract

This study objectively investigates the aspects and nature of the textbook with the aims to describe the implications of the textbooks that align with the Merdeka curriculum and explain the alignment between the implications of the investigated textbook and the learning objectives of the curriculum. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive research. The data are sourced from two English textbooks used in seventh-grade junior high school in Indonesia. Documentation is employed as the primary method of the data collection techniques. Data collection and data analysis are conducted simultaneously supported with checklists and task analysis sheets based on the foundational principles of material analysis or three-level lnalysis by Littlejohn (2011). The investigation of English for Nusantara and Bahasa Inggris reveals a comprehensive alignment with the learning objectives, or capaian pembelajaran, set by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in Merdeka Curriculum. The result of the study shows each investigated textbook offers a means to support achieving capaian pembelajaran. However, there is still a need for more tasks for some specific aspects within the materials such as specific written extended discourse output and input like persuasive writing.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini secara obyektif menyelidiki aspek-aspek dan sifat dari buku teks dengan tujuan untuk menggambarkan implikasi dari buku teks yang selaras dengan kurikulum Merdeka dan menjelaskan keselarasan antara implikasi dari buku teks yang diselidiki dengan tujuan pembelajaran kurikulum. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data bersumber dari dua buku teks bahasa Inggris yang digunakan di sekolah menengah pertama kelas tujuh di Indonesia. Dokumentasi digunakan sebagai metode utama dalam teknik pengumpulan data. Pengumpulan data dan analisis data dilakukan secara bersamaan dengan didukung oleh daftar periksa dan lembar analisis tugas berdasarkan prinsip-prinsip dasar analisis materi atau analisis tiga tingkat oleh Littlejohn (2011). Investigasi terhadap Bahasa Inggris untuk Nusantara dan Bahasa Inggris menunjukkan keselarasan yang komprehensif dengan tujuan pembelajaran, atau capaian pembelajaran, yang ditetapkan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi dalam Kurikulum Merdeka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setiap buku teks yang diteliti menawarkan sarana untuk mendukung pencapaian capaian pembelajaran. Namun, masih diperlukan lebih banyak tugas untuk beberapa aspek tertentu dalam materi seperti keluaran dan masukan wacana tulis yang diperluas seperti menulis persuasif.
