Abstract

This research aims to find out students' misconceptions about straight line equations, their causes and how to overcome them. The subjects of this research were class VIIIB students at SMPN 15 Serang City. Data collection uses written tests and interviews. The type of research carried out was descriptive qualitative. The results of students' initial ability tests are used to divide students into 3 categories of students' initial abilities, namely high, medium and low initial abilities. The results of the Three Tier-Test are used to identify misconceptions about straight line equations. The research results showed that students with high initial abilities fall into the moderate misconception category with a percentage of misconceptions of 48%, a percentage of understanding concepts of 33%, a percentage of lucky guesses of 4%, and a percentage of lack of understanding of concepts of 15%, the cause of misconceptions comes from the students themselves, and The way to overcome this is to be more active in studying so that you can understand the concepts and formulas in the straight line equation material. Students with moderate initial abilities fall into the moderate misconception category with a percentage of misconceptions of 47%, a percentage of understanding concepts of 33%, a percentage of lucky guesses of 5%, and a percentage of lack of understanding of concepts of 15%, the causes are due to the textbooks used, the teaching methods used, and context, how to overcome it by using complete textbooks, implementing teaching methods that increase students' interest in learning mathematics, and clarity of sentences in the Three Tier-Test questions. Students with low initial abilities fall into the moderate misconception category with a percentage of misconceptions of 66%, a percentage of understanding concepts of 19%, a percentage of lucky guesses of 0%, and a percentage of lack of understanding of concepts of 15%, the causes are due to the students themselves and the context, how to overcome them by re-memorize the formulas in the straight line equation material and clarify the sentences in the questions further.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui miskonsepsi pada siswa pada materi persamaan garis lurus, penyebab, dan cara mengatasinya. Subjek penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas VIIIB SMPN 15 Kota Serang. Pengumpulan data menggunakan tes tulis dan wawancara. Jenis penelitian yang dijalankan adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil tes kemampuan awal siswa digunakan untuk membagi siswa menjadi 3 kategori kemampuan awal siswa, yaitu kemampuan awal tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Hasil Three Tier-Test digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi miskonsepsi pada persamaan garis lurus. Hasil penelitian didapatkan, Siswa berkemampuan awal tinggi masuk ke dalam kategori miskonsepsi sedang dengan presentase miskonsepsi sebesar 48%, presentase paham konsep 33%, presentase tebakan beruntung 4%, dan presentase kurangnya pemahaman konsep 15%, penyebab miskonsepsi berasal dari diri siswa sendiri, dan cara mengatasinya lebih giat lagi dalam belajar agar dapat memahami konsep dan rumus yang ada pada materi persamaan garis lurus . Siswa berkemampuan awal sedang masuk ke dalam kategori miskonsepsi sedang dengan presentase miskonsepsi sebesar 47%, presentase paham konsep 33%, presentase tebakan beruntung 5%, dan presentase kurangnya pemahaman konsep 15%, penyebabnya dikarenakan dari buku teks yang digunakan, metode mengajar yang digunakan, dan konteks, cara mengatasinya dengan cara menggunakan buku teks yang lengkap, dilakukannya metode mengajar yang menambah minat belajar matematika siswa, dan kejelasan kalimat pada soal Three Tier-Test. Siswa berkemampuan awal rendah masuk ke dalam kategori miskonsepsi sedang dengan presentase miskonsepsi sebesar 66%, presentase paham konsep 19%, presentase tebakan beruntung 0%, dan presentase kurangnya pemahaman konsep 15%, penyebabnya dikarenakan dari diri siswa sendiri dan konteks, cara mengatasinya dengan cara menghafal kembali rumus yang ada pada materi persamaan garis lurus dan kalimat pada soal lebih diperjelas lagi.
