Abstract

The objective of this research were to describe the process of improving students’ vocabulary mastery by using picture and to find out the result of students’ improvement in vocabulary mastery by using picture at seventh grade of SMPN 17 Kota Serang. This research is Qualitative by CAR (Classroom Action Resaerch) method. The researcher used pre-test and post-test to collect the quantative data. Maenwhile, the researcher used observation sheet, and documentation for collecting the qualitative data. This was conducted in two cycles which consisted of two meetings in every cycle. The procedure of each cycle consist of planing, acting, observing and reflecting. This research was conducted at VIID class of SMPN 17 Kota Serang in academic year of 2016/2017 that consist of 41 students. The instrument of this research were observation sheet, vocabulary test and documentation. The research found out wether picture as a media could improve the students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMPN 17 Kota Serang. The students enjoy and enthusiastic when learning vocabulary by using picture. In the first cycle, the average of pre-test was 37.56, and average post test I was 82.56. For cycle II, the average of post test II was 94.02. The researcher found that the students got an improvement in vocabulary mastery. In conclusion, picture as a media of teaching learning process could improve student’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMPN 17 Kota Serang.
