Abstract

The objectives of the research are to find out the process of teaching descriptive writing and the improvement of students’ descriptive writing by using picture technique at the VII B of SMPN 4 Cilegon. The research was held on May 10th until 20th 2017. The research methodology was qualitative research implementing the action research. Action research was supported by the data, in this case the result of the students’ test. The main of qualitative was to search information and asses a situation in the classroom and quantitative research supported qualitative data. Therefore, the researcher has been using observation, test and documentation as her instruments. In cycle one the test score was 63.2 and in cycle two was 90.1. So, the students’ score was improved around 26.9. Finally, the researcher concluded that using picture in descriptive writing can improve students’ skill in writing descriptive text of SMPN 4 Cilegon.
