Abstract
Writing requires high skills with the development of logical ideas,critical thinking and requires a complex process. A writer must be able to express the meaning and purpose of writing with good words so that the reader understands the meaning of the text. Thematic progression very useful in helping writers to communicate their ideas. Thematic progression aims at developing clauses to become cohesive and coherent texts. Based on the problems, the researcher decided to investigate thematic progression in descriptive text written by Indonesian EFL learners at English Department of Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa. The researcher uses qualitative research because this study collecting data, analyze data, then draw conclusions. The result of this research paper showed that, the re-iteration type reached 64%, . Then, 23%, use the zigzag type, and 13%, use multiple type. That means the most dominant type of thematic progression in student texts is the Re-iteration type, which reaches 64%. It can be conclude, Thematic progression positively affect students' writing, especially in developing their ideas. Indonesian EFL learners from the English Department at Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa can develop and organize their ideas in three ways in the form of thematic progressions.

Additional Information: | Menulis memerlukan keterampilan yang tinggi dengan pengembangan ide yang logis, berpikir kritis dan memerlukan proses yang kompleks. Seorang penulis harus mampu mengungkapkan maksud dan tujuan tulisannya dengan kata-kata yang baik agar pembaca dapat memahami arti teks tersebut. Perkembangan tematik sangat berguna dalam membantu penulis mengkomunikasikan gagasannya. Perkembangan tematik bertujuan mengembangkan klausa menjadi teks yang kohesif dan koheren. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, peneliti memutuskan untuk menyelidiki perkembangan tematik dalam teks deskriptif yang ditulis oleh pelajar EFL (English as a Foreign Language) Indonesia di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa. Peneliti menggunakan penelitian kualitatif karena penelitian ini mengumpulkan data, menganalisis data, kemudian menarik kesimpulan. Hasil makalah penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa, tipe Re-iteration mencapai 64%, . Lalu, 23% menggunakan tipe zig-zag, dan 13% menggunakan tipe ganda. Artinya, jenis perkembangan tematik yang paling dominan dalam teks siswa adalah jenis Re-iteration yaitu mencapai 64%. Dapat disimpulkan, Perkembangan tematik berpengaruh positif terhadap tulisan siswa, terutama dalam mengembangkan ide-idenya. Pembelajar EFL Indonesia dari Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa dapat mengembangkan dan mengorganisasikan idenya dalam tiga cara dalam bentuk perkembangan tematik. | |||||||||
