Abstract

This study focuses on the low levels of students' mathematical critical thinking skills and self efficacy. To address these issues, the researchers propose the use of Problem-Based Learning integrated with Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) as a learning model. The study was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Kota Serang during the 2023/2024 school year. The aim of the research was to determine the differences and improvements in students' mathematical critical thinking skills and self efficacy after implementing the STEM integrated Problem-Based Learning model. The study employed a quantitative research approach using a quasi�experimental method with pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. Purposive sampling was used for selecting the participants. The data was collected through a mathematical critical thinking ability test and a self efficacy questionnaire. Based on the results of data analysis, it is concluded that the improvement of mathematical critical thinking skills of experimental class students is better than the control class and there is a difference in self efficacy of students who use STEM-integrated Problem Based Learning with students who get conventional learning with the lecture method.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa, namun kenyataannya kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis masih tergolong rendah. Selain itu, self efficacy juga berperan penting dalam pembelajaran, dan kenyataannya self efficacy siswa masih rendah. Sehingga perlu penyelesaian masalah tersebut dengan penerapan model pembelajaran yang tepat dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis dan self efficacy siswa, yaitu Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah terintegrasi Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMP Negeri 1 Kota Serang tahun ajaran 2023/2024. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan dan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis dan self efficacy setelah diterapkan model Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah terintegrasi STEM. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain pretest posttest nonequivalent control group design. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu tes kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis dan angket self efficacy. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa kelas eksperimen lebih baik dibanding kelas kontrol dan terdapat perbedaan self efficacy siswa yang menggunakan Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah terintegrasi STEM dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional dengan metode ceramah.
