Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the structure of compound sentences in essay description of students of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Bayah. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method with content analysis technique. Object in this research is essay description of students of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Bayah while the focus in this research is the structure of compound sentences of students. The instrument used is a composing test. From this study obtained 142 sentences from 10 articles analyzed, from the whole sentence there are 68 sentences compound, consisting of 31 equivalent compound sentences, 27 multi-sentence sentences, and 10 mixed compound sentences. Of the 68 multiple sentences there are 68 different sentence structures. Of the entire compound sentences analyzed, there is no dominant sentence structure. Each compound sentence has different structures. Structure of compound sentence of students of SMA Negeri 1 Bayah is very complex because there are many expansions in each element, especially element description. Some examples of compound kallimat structure S + P + K + P + K, S + P + Pel + K + P + Pel + K, K (P + 0) + S + P + S + P + S + P + P + 0 + K.

| Additional Information: | Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui struktur kalimat majemuk pada karangan deskripsi siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Bayah. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan tehnik analisis isi. Objek dalam penelitian ini adalah karangan deskripsi siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Bayah sedangkan yang menjadi fokus dalam penelitian ini adalah struktur kalimat majemuk siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes mengarang. Dari penelitian ini diperoleh 142 kalimat dari 10 karangan yang dianalisis, dari keseluruhan kalimat tersebut terdapat 68 kalimat majemuk, yang terdiri dari 31 kalimat majemuk setara, 27 kalimat majemuk bertingkat, dan 10 kalimat majemuk campuran. Dari 68 kalimat majemuk terdapat 68 struktur kalimat yang berbeda. Dari keseluruhan kalimat majemuk yang dianalisis, tidak terdapat struktur kalimat yang dominan. Tiap-tiap kalimat majemuk memiliki struktur yang berbeda-beda. Struktur kalimat majemuk siswa SMA Negeri 1 Bayah sangat kompleks karena banyak terjadi perluasan-perluasan pada tiap unsurnya, terutama unsur keterangan.
