Abstract
This research is about the analysis of student’s pronunciation in pronouncing English words. The objectives of this research are to know te kinds of error that produced by the students at SMAN 1 XI Petir and to know the reasons why the students make error when they produce English sounds at SMAN 1 Petir. The researcher limited his study on segmental feature . The reasearcher used qualitative methode to obtain the data from the students pronunciation. This method use to describe and elaborate the phenomenon that happened in that society systematically and accurately. The errors were classified into three categories. They were consonants, vowel, and diphthong errors. The errors that occured in the research were /ai/, /v/, /aʊ /, /ə/, /ð/, /tʃ /, /dʒ /,/eɪ /. It is because it influence and seldom to appear in mother tongue language and their first language. The major factors of students’ pronunciation error were interlingual error and intralingual error. The condition of their environment of learning also will influence their English comprehension, especially in pronouncing the English words. Most of students still have problems in pronouncing English sounds due to influence of their behavior in learning target language.
