Abstract

The objective of this research was to know the quality of the test based on validity (empirical and logical), reliability and discrimination power. English final examination for the twelfth grade at SMAN 4 Kota Serang was used as the research object and it consisted of 40 multiple-choice and 5 essay test items. The total respondent of this research was 357 students. Qualitative method was used as the research method and content analysis was used as the research design in this research. Anates version 4.0.9 was used as the program to analyze the test item to know the empirical validity, reliability and discrimination power of the test. Standardized review form based on Direktorat Pembinaan SMA (2010) was used to analyze the logical validity of the test. The result of the research in multiplechoice test item format showed that there were 23 (57,5%) valid and 17 (42,5%) invalid test items which had been seen from empirical validity. Meanwhile, the result of logical validity showed that there were 8 (20%) accepted test items which only not eligible from the written form and 32 (80%) revised test items which not eligible from material, construction and language aspect. The reliability of multiple-choice test item format was 0,76 which is included into high reliability. The discrimination power of the multiple-choice test item format showed that there were 2 (5%) negative items, 8 (20%) poor items, 16 (40%) satisfactory items, 14 (35%) good items and there was no excellent item. The result of essay test item analysis showed that there were 3 (60%) valid and 2 (40%) invalid test items which had been seen from empirical validity. From the logical validity, there was only 1 item which not eligible from the written form. Thus, there were 5 (100%) accepted items and no revised items. The result of reliability in essay test item format was 0,52 which included into enough reliability. The discrimination power of the essay test item format showed that there were 1 (20%) satisfactory items and 4 (80%) good items.
