Abstract

“Improving Students’ Ability in Writing Recount Text through Diary at The Eighth Grade Students of MTsN 1 Kota Serang” (Classroom Action Research) By Putri Alief Rizki 092298 Abstract The title of this research paper is “Improving Students‟ Ability in Writing Recount Text through Diary at the Eighth Grade Students of MTs Negeri 1 Kota Serang (A Classroom Action Research).” Students had difficulty in developing the idea because they do not know what they want to write to make a good recount text. The objectives of the research were to describe the process of teaching writing recount text through diary and to find out the improvement of students‟ ability in writing recount text through diary at the eighth grade of MTsN 1 Kota Serang. The research methodology was qualitative research implementing the action research by using Kemmis and McTaggart model (1996). Action research was supported by the data, in this case the result of the students‟ test. The main of qualitative was to search information and asses a situation in the classroom and quantitative research will support qualitative data. The researcher believed that using qualitative and quantitative methods were considered appropriate to this research. The subject of this research is the students of VIII I class which consist of 32 students. The instruments used in data collecting are test, observation, and documentation.The result of this study was found that diary had given improvement to students‟ ability writing recount text. The result showed that in pretest, the average score of students is 53.12. However, the average of students score was increase to 70.15 on cycle I and 81.71 on cycle II. This means that by using diary as media, students‟ ability in writing recount text reading will improve. Keywords : Diary, Writing Recount Text, Junior High School Students
