Abstract

Ameliorant is a material used to improve or increase the content of certain minerals that can fertilize the soil. Steel slag is a by-product produced from the steel industry which contains CaO, SiO2, P2O5, Al2O3, MgO and Fe2O3 which can be used as an ameliorant. Dolomite is a limestone rock that contains MgO and CaO which is generally used to increase soil pH and mineral content in the soil. This research was carried out with the aim of determining the effect of steel slag application on changes in soil chemical characteristics in lowland rice plants (Oryza sativa L.). This research was conducted from September to December 2021. The research design was laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) which consisted of one factor, namely the administration of ameliorant. The application of ameliorant consists of 7 levels, namely without any treatment (P0), dolomite 2 t/ha (P1), dolomite 2 t/ha + steel slag 2.5 t/ha (P2), steel slag 1.5 t/ha (P3 ), steel slag 2.5 t/ha (P4), steel slag 5 t/ha (P5) and steel slag 7.5 t/ha (P6). The research results showed that the use of steel slag as an ameliorant in rice plants had a significant influence on several observed soil parameters, namely soil pH, percentage of available organic phosphorus C, exchangeable calcium, exchangeable magnesium, iron content and SiO2 content. The application of steel slag at a dose of 7.5 t/ha was not able to provide the best results regarding changes in the chemical characteristics of paddy soil.

Additional Information: Amelioran adalah bahan yang digunakan untuk memperbaiki atau meningkatkan kandungan mineral tertentu yang dapat menyuburkan tanah. Steel slag adalah bahan sampingan yang dihasilkan dari industri baja dimana kandungan CaO, SiO2, P2O5, Al2O3, MgO dan Fe2O3 didalamnya dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai amelioran. Dolomit adalah batuan kapur yang mengandung MgO dan CaO yang secara umum digunakan untuk meningkatkan pH tanah serta kandungan mineral dalam tanah. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh aplikasi steel slag terhadap perubahan ciri kimia tanah pada tanaman padi sawah (Oryza sativa L.). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan September hingga Desember 2021. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) yang terdiri dari satu faktor yakni pemberian amelioran. Pemberian amelioran terdiri dari 7 taraf yakni tanpa perlakuan (P0), dolomit 2 t/ha (P1), dolomit 2 t/ha + steel slag 2,5 t/ha (P2), steel slag 1,5 t/ha (P3), steel slag 2,5 t/ha (P4), steel slag 5 t/ha (P5) dan steel slag 7,5 t/ha (P6). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan steel slag sebagai amelioran pada tanaman padi memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap beberapa parameter tanah yang diamati, yaitu pH tanah, persentase C organik fosfor tersedia, kalsium yang dapat dipertukarkan, magnesium yang dapat dipertukarkan, kadar besi dan kadar SiO2. Pemberian steel slag dengan dosis 7,5 t/ha belum mampu memberikan hasil terbaik terhadap perubahan ciri sifat kimia tanah sawah.
