Abstract

Improving higher order thinking abilities (HOTS) is the main goal of education in the 21st century. HOTS is a high level cognitive thinking process, one of which is the ability to solve mathematical problems. To help mathematical problem solving abilities, instruments are needed that comply with the HOTS criteria, namely by providing contextual problems. However, many students have difficulty when facing HOTS questions, one of which is when students are given problems on HOTS questions on statistics material which causes many errors when working on the questions. Statistics is a material that has relevance to contextual problems, namely in collecting and analyzing data and as a further material that will be rediscovered at every level of education and problems in everyday life. In order to know students' difficulties, it is necessary to identify the types of errors in students. This is done to determine the type and cause of the error using Newman's criteria. This research was carried out by giving HOTS statistics test questions to 36 class VIII E students at SMPN 2 Balaraja, then the results were classified using Newman's criteria, then several students were selected who met these criteria. Then proceed with interviews to get more concrete and in-depth analysis results. From the results of the percentage of error types, it is known that the percentage of errors in reading questions was 5.3%, errors in understanding questions were 13.2%, transformations were 23.4%, process skills were 30%, and writing final answers was 28.1%. . So that the most errors were obtained by students at the process skills stage.

Additional Information: Meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi (HOTS) adalah tujuan utama pendidikan di abad-21. HOTS merupakan suatu proses berpikir level kognitif yang tinggi, salah satunya pada kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika. Dalam membantu kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika dibutuhkan instrumen yang sesuai dengan kriteria HOTS, yaitu dengan memberikan permasalahan kontekstual. Akan tetapi banyak siswa yang kesulitan saat menghadapi soal HOTS, salah satunya ketika siswa diberikan permasalahan pada soal HOTS materi statistika yang menyebabkan banyaknya kesalahan saat mengerjakan soal tersebut. Statistika merupakan salah satu materi yang memiliki relevansi terhadap permasalahan kontekstual, yaitu pada pengumpulan dan penganalisisan data serta sebagai materi lanjutan yang akan ditemukan kembali pada setiap jenjang pendidikan maupun permasalahan kehidupan sehari-hari. Agar mengetahui kesulitan siswa, perlunya melakukan identifikasi terhadap jenis kesalahan pada siswa. Hal ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui jenis dan penyebab dari kesalahan tersebut menggunakan kriteria Newman. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan pemberian tes soal HOTS statistika kepada 36 siswa kelas VIII E SMPN 2 Balaraja, kemudian hasilnya diklasifikasi menggunakan kriteria Newman, lalu dipilih beberapa siswa yang memenuhi kriteria tersebut. Kemudian dilanjutkan dengan wawancara agar mendapat hasil analisis yang lebih konkrit dan mendalam. Dari hasil persentase jenis kesalahan telah diketahui bahwa pada kesalahan membaca soal persentasenya sebesar 5,3%, kesalahan memahami soal sebesar 13,2%, transformasi sebesar 23,4%, keterampilan proses sebesar 30%, dan penulisan jawaban akhir sebesar 28,1%. Sehingga diperoleh kesalahan terbanyak yang dilakukan siswa pada tahap keterampilan proses.
