Abstract

ABSTRACT ESRA MARIAM MORIN SINAGA. 2014. Fermentation of Water Hyacinth Meal (Eichhornia crassipes) to Increase Digestibility on Tilapia Fingerly (Oreochromis niloticus). Supervised by SAIFULLAH, ACHMAD NOERKHAERIN PUTRA and MAS TRI DJOKO SUNARNO Water hyacinth (E. crassipes) can be used to subtitute animal protein from fish meal in feed. However, the utilization of water hyacinth are still experiencing problems, namely the high crude fiber content, the presence of substances antinutrition factor, and low protein content. This research aimed to evaluate digestibility values of water hyacinth meal (E. crassipes) with fermentation process at BEST tilapia fish (O. niloticus). 3 treatments and 3 replace namely as non-fermentation (A), water hyacinth meal fermented with probiotic Bacillus based (B) and water hyacinth meal fermented by Trichoderma reesei (C). The result showed that water hyacinth meal fermented with probiotic Bacillus based present the best. The value in the treatment total digestibility of 64.51%, crude protein digestibility of 85.51%, crude fiber digestibility of 76.89%, ash digestibility of 79.27% and energy digestibilit y of 74.36%.
