Abstract

This research is dealing with improving students' reading comprehension through Jigsaw Technique in the news item text. The research was conducted at eight grade of Penabur Serang Junior High School in academic 2017/2018. This research used qualitative and quantitative data by implementing classroom action research. The purpose of this research was to solve students' problem in learning English especially reading comprehension. This research devided into two cycles. Every cycles has different topic to encourage students motivation. The cycle I discuss about current news of art in Indonesia and the cycle II about cultur that was adopted from e-magazine. The technique was useful in learning process. Jigsaw technique could be alternative technique in teaching reading comprehension in Penabur Serang Junior High School. The result of research showed the improvement around 15, 32 which the mean score of cycle I and the mean score of cycle II is 83. The process of teaching learning in improving reading comprehension in the news text through Jigsaw Technique gave positive behaviour and improvement for students. The average score of pre-test and post-test was computed, the mean score was 67 and the score of post-test was 83. it means the technique were able to improve students' reading comprehension.
