Abstract

The purpose of this research intended to determine students' mathematical literacy abilities based on Field Dependent (FD) and Field Independent (FI) cognitive styles in solving PISA type questions with change and connection content. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 14 Serang City with 22 class IX H students as subjects. Research subjects were selected using purposive sampling technique. This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The data collection techniques used were the GEFT test to identify students' cognitive styles, a mathematical literacy ability test in the form of 6 questions on content changes and relationships and interviews. The results showed that of the 22 students, 18 students had the FD cognitive style and 4 students had the FI cognitive style. The mathematical literacy ability of ninth-grade students at SMPN 14 Kota Serang falls within the moderate category. Out of six students, only three (SP-18, SP-20, and SP-22) managed to complete the tasks at levels 1-6 accurately, while the others (SP-1, SP-10, and SP-19) only reached levels 1, 2, and 3. FD students like SP-1 and SP-10 are limited to basic addition and multiplication operations, whereas FI students like SP-19 can utilize the concept of comparison. SP-18 (FD), SP-20 (FI), and SP-22 (FI) demonstrate the ability to apply more complex mathematical skills such as calculating costs and estimating diesel savings. Students with FI cognitive styles show better performance in understanding basic mathematical concepts and solving complex problems.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan literasi matematis siswa berdasarkan gaya kognitif Field Dependent (FD) dan Field Independent (FI) dalam menyelesaikan soal setipe PISA konten change and relationship. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMP Negeri 14 Kota Serang dengan 22 siswa kelas IX H sebagai subjek. Subjek penelitian dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan berupa tes GEFT untuk mengidentifikasi gaya kognitif siswa, tes kemampuan literasi matematis berupa 6 soal konten change and relationship dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa dari 22 siswa, 18 siswa memiliki gaya kognitif FD dan 4 siswa memiliki gaya kognitif FI. Kemampuan literasi matematis kelas IX di SMPN 14 Kota Serang berada pada kategori sedang. Dari enam siswa, hanya tiga siswa (SP-18, SP-20, dan SP-22) yang berhasil menyelesaikan soal pada level 1-6 dengan tepat, sementara siswa lainnya (SP-1, SP-10, dan SP-19) hanya mencapai level 1, 2, dan 3. Siswa FD seperti SP-1 dan SP-10 terbatas pada operasi sederhana penjumlahan dan perkalian, sedangkan siswa FI seperti SP-19 mampu menggunakan konsep perbandingan. SP-18 (FD), SP-20 (FI), dan SP-22 (FI) mampu menerapkan keterampilan matematika yang lebih kompleks seperti menghitung biaya dan memperkirakan penghematan diesel. Siswa dengan gaya kognitif FI menunjukkan pencapaian yang lebih baik dalam memahami konsep dasar matematika dan menyelesaikan masalah kompleks.
