Abstract

The abundance of corn husk waste and its environmentally friendly nature because it is a natural material makes it a good filler for composite materials. Corn husks are a good option as a natural fiber for composite fillers because they have a porous structure, are strong and light based on research conducted. The compaction variations in particle board are 60, 80 and 100 bar for 2 hours. The composite made contains 25% PVAc adhesive, 10% epoxy resin, 32.5% corn husk fiber, and 32.5% sengon wood powder. Time for surface treatment in 5% NaOH solution for 120 minutes. The corn husks were extracted in water for 7 days and the compaction process was carried out for 2 hours and the sintering time was 30 minutes at a temperature of 150℃. Analysis of optimal results from the experiment was carried out using the Multi Response Performance Index (MRPI) weighting method with the observed characteristics including density, thickness expansion, percentage of water absorption, hardness, and flexural strength according to SNI 03-2105-2006 standards. The best results were obtained on K100 particle board with a compaction pressure variation of 100 bar, namely a density value of 0.85 g/cm3, thickness expansion of 4.93%, water absorption percentage of 46.11%, hardness of 40.17 shore D, and flexural strength of 91.79 kgf/cm2. The K100 sample has an MRPI value of 57.058 and is the largest value of the K60 sample of 25.839 and K80 of 34.568.

Additional Information: Melimpahnya limbah kulit jagung dan juga sifatnya yang ramah lingkungan karena merupakan bahan alami menjadikannya sebagai salah satu filler yang baik dari suatu bahan komposit. Kulit jagung menjadi opsi yang baik sebagai serat alami untuk pengisi komposit karena memiliki struktur berpori, kuat dan ringan berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan. Variasi kompaksi dalam papan partikel adalah 60, 80 dan 100 bar selama 2 jam. Komposit yang dibuat mengandung 25% perekat PVAc, 10% resin epoksi, 32,5% serat kulit jagung, dan 32,5% serbuk kayu sengon. Waktu untuk perlakuan permukaan dalam larutan NaOH 5% selama 120 menit. Kulit jagung diektraksi di air selama 7 hari dan proses kompaksi dilakukan selama 2 jam dan waktu sintering selama 30 menit di suhu 150℃. Analisis hasil optimal dari percobaan dilakukan dengan metode pembobotan Multi Response Performance Index (MRPI) dengan karakteristik yang diamati meliputi densitas, pengembangan tebal, persentase penyerapan air, kekerasan, dan keteguhan lentur menurut standar SNI 03-2105-2006. Hasil terbaik didapatkan pada papan partikel K100 dengan variasi tekanan kompaksi sebesar 100 bar yaitu nilai densitas sebesar 0,85 g/cm3, pengembangan tebal sebesar 4,93%, persentase penyerapan air sebesar 46,11%, kekerasan sebesar 40,17 shore D, dan keteguhan lentur sebesar 91,79 kgf/cm2. Pada sampel K100 memiliki nilai MRPI sebesar 57,058 dan merupakan nilai terbesar dari sampel K60 sebesar 25,839 dan K80 seebesar 34,568.
