Abstract

The objective of this research were : (1) to find out the students’ needs in learning narrative text at ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kota Serang, (2) to find out how to develop an animation of narrative text (ANTEX), (3)to find out the appropriateness of digital animation for teaching narrative text at ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kota Serang.This is a Research and Development (R&D) study which were adapated from Research and Development (R&D) proposed by Borg and Gall (1983), consists of (1) research and information collecting, (2) planning, (3) develop preliminary form of product, (4) preliminary field testing, (5) main product revision, (6) main field testing, (7) operational product revision. This research involved a ninth grade English teacher and the students of IX A at SMP Negeri 2 Kota Serang. The students’ open-ended questionnaire, teacher’s interview, the students’ assessment sheets, material, and media expert’s validation forms were used to collect the data. The data was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively.Data analysis revealed that the students and an English teacher needs a digital animation media for teaching and learning narrative text. The result of material expert’s validation in preliminary field testing obtained 78% and 90% in the main field testing while the media expert’svalidation in preliminary field testing obtained 80% and 100% in main field testing. It showed that the quality of developed product (ANTEX) was “Valid”. The result of students’ assessment sheets obtained score 87.5% in the preliminary field testing while in the main field testing obtained score 88.5% which was proved that developed product (ANTEX) was “Valid”. Therefore, it can be concluded that the developed product (ANTEX) was appropriate to be used for teaching narrative text at ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kota Serang. In conclusion, ANTEX could be applied as an alternative learning media in the teaching learning narrative text material and it is important to consider and understand procedures of model development in creating a learning media.

Berdasarkan analisis data, dapat ditemukan bahwa siswa/i dan guru Bahasa Inggris membutuhkan media animasi digital dalam pembelajaran teks naratif. Validasi ahli materi pada tahap uji coba skala kecil menghasilkan presentase 78% dan 90% pada tahap uji coba skala besar sementara validasi ahli media pada tahap uji coba skala kecil menghasilkan presentase 80% dan 100% pada tahap uji coba skala besar. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa kualitas media pengembangan ANTEX dikategorikan “Valid”. Selain itu, hasil kuesioner penilaian siswa/i menghasilkan presentase 87.5% pada tahap uji coba skala kecil sementara pada tahap uji coba skala besar menghasilkan presentase 88.5% yang membuktikan bahwa media pengembangan ANTEX “Valid”. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa media pengembangan ANTEX sesuai untuk digunakan pada pengajaran teks naratif di kelas 9 SMP Negeri 2 Kota Serang.Kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini adalah media pengembangan ANTEX dapat dijadikan salah satu media pembelajaran alternatif dalam pembelajaran teks naratif dan penting untuk memahami prosedur model pengembangan dalam membuat suatu media pembelajaran.
