Abstract

Milkfish cultivation ponds (Chanos chanos) in Kasemen District are ponds close to the sea whoch have been contaminated with plastic wate. The pond environment also contains household waste that is thrown carelessly. This can effect the presence of microplastics in aquaculture ponds in Kasemen District. Therefore, this research was conducted to determine the abundance of microplastics in milkfish, sediment and water in aquaculture ponds in Kasemen district and determine the type of microplastic polymer. The results of the research showed that the cultivation ponds in Kasemen subdistrict were polluted by microplastics, both in the meat, gills, digestive organs of milkfish, sediment and water. The forms of microplastics found are fibers, films and fragments. FTIR test results show that the microplastics found are made from polypropylene (PP). Therefore, from the results of this research, action is needed to reduce the impact of microplastics on the environment, such as improving better waste processing, reducing the use of single-use plastics, and disposing of waste properly.
