Abstract
Speaking is a crucial ability to master in language acquisition, especially when learning English. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of animated audio-visual media on the speaking skills of eighth-grade students at SMPN 4 Tambun Selatan. The research employed a quantitative research method with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group research design. The population of the research was eighth-grade students of SMPN 4 Tambun Selatan. There were two research groups: a control class and an experimental class, each consisting of 30 students. A pre-test and post-test of the speaking test were used as the instruments for this research. The data were then gathered and analysed using a content validity test and an inter-rater reliability test. After analysing the validity and reliability of the test, the data were further examined using a normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis test with a t-test. Upon completing the data analysis, it was revealed that the t-count was higher than the value of t-table at the 0.05 level of significance and a degree of freedom (df) of 58 for the two-tailed test, or 5.397 ≥ 2.00. This result indicated that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, meaning that there was an effect of utilizing animated audio-visual media on speaking skills of eighth-grade students at SMPN 4 Tambun Selatan. In conclusion, it can be concluded that using animated audio-visual media can be one of the mediums that teachers can implement to enhance speaking activities.

Additional Information: | Berbicara merupakan kemampuan yang sangat penting untuk dikuasai dalam penguasaan bahasa, terutama dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh media audio visual animasi terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas VIII di SMPN 4 Tambun Selatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian kuasi eksperimen non-equivalent control group. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas delapan SMPN 4 Tambun Selatan. Terdapat dua kelompok penelitian: kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen, masing-masing terdiri dari 30 siswa. Pre-test dan post-test dari tes berbicara digunakan sebagai instrumen untuk penelitian ini. Data kemudian dikumpulkan dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji validitas isi dan uji reliabilitas antar penilai. Setelah menganalisis validitas dan reliabilitas tes, data diperiksa lebih lanjut dengan menggunakan uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, dan uji hipotesis dengan t-test. Setelah dilakukan analisis data, diperoleh hasil bahwa nilai t-hitung lebih tinggi dari nilai t-tabel pada tingkat signifikansi 0,05 dan derajat kebebasan (df) 58 untuk uji dua pihak (two tailed test), atau 5,397 ≥ 2,00. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima, yang berarti bahwa terdapat pengaruh pemanfaatan media audio visual animasi terhadap keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas VIII SMPN 4 Tambun Selatan. Kesimpulannya, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan media audio visual animasi dapat menjadi salah satu media yang dapat diterapkan oleh guru untuk meningkatkan kegiatan berbicara. | |||||||||
