Abstract

Soybean meal is the main source of plant protein in feed, but the price is relatively expensive, and its availability is still imported. Therefore, it is necessary to find alternative plant ingredient feed to substitute soybean meal. Melon seeds (Cucumis melo L) have the potential as a raw material for feed because of their high nutritional and by-products of melon fruit. This study aims to evaluate melon seed meal on the digestibility and growth performance of striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus). This study used a completely randomized design, using 3 treatments and 3 replications, namely, A (reference feed), B (30% unprocessed melon seed meal) and C (30% processed melon seed meal). After adaptation, the striped catfish with an average weight of 3.32 ± 0.42 g were stocked into 9 aquariums (70×30×35 cm; 24 L) with a stocking density of 20 individuals/aquarium and were given test feed at satiation for 30 days of rearing period. Fish feces were taken 60 minutes after the test feeding was carried out. The digestibility of raw materials in processed melon seed meal has a higher value than in unprocessed melon seed meal. The values of total digestibility, protein digestibility, carbohydrate digestibility, energy digestibility, feed consumption, specific growth rate and feed efficiency in processed melon meal produced significantly different values (P<0.05). The survival rate in all treatments was not significantly different (P>0.05).

Additional Information: Bungkil kedelai merupakan sumber protein nabati utama dalam pakan, namun harganya relatif mahal dan ketersediaannya masih diimpor. Oleh karena itu, perlu dicari alternatif pakan berbahan nabati pengganti bungkil kedelai. Biji melon (Cucumis melo L) mempunyai potensi sebagai bahan baku pakan karena kandungan gizinya yang tinggi dan hasil samping buah melon. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi tepung biji melon terhadap daya cerna dan kinerja pertumbuhan ikan patin (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus). Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan 3 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan yaitu A (pakan acuan), B (30% tepung biji melon yang belum diolah) dan C (30% tepung biji melon yang diolah). Setelah adaptasi, ikan patin dengan berat rata-rata 3,32 ± 0,42 g ditebar ke dalam 9 akuarium (70×30×35 cm; 24 L) dengan padat tebar 20 ekor/akuarium dan diberikan pakan uji at satiation selama 30 hari. masa pemeliharaan. Feses ikan diambil 60 menit setelah uji pemberian pakan dilakukan. Kecernaan bahan baku pada tepung biji melon yang diolah memiliki nilai yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan tepung biji melon yang tidak diolah. Nilai kecernaan total, kecernaan protein, kecernaan karbohidrat, kecernaan energi, konsumsi pakan, laju pertumbuhan spesifik dan efisiensi pakan pada olahan tepung melon menghasilkan nilai yang berbeda nyata (P<0,05). Tingkat kelangsungan hidup pada semua perlakuan tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05).
