Abstract

Learning mathematics is not just learn about numbers, calculations and formulas but also learning so that we can think and act logically, structured and systematically. It also includes training some mathematical abilities for example problem solving skills. This ability is usually trained with questions that are presented in the form of stories that are contextual and involve everyday life. There is still a lack of students in Indonesia practicing this ability, including writers, so researchers are interested in finding out and measuring problem solving abilities when viewed from personality types. Researchers use the classification of problem solving stages according to Polya's theory. The method used is descriptive qualitative and carried out at SMP Tarsisius 1 Kebon Jeruk. From the results of tests and interviews, the two personality types did not show good enough results, which resulted in an average of 5 introvert students of 45, slightly higher than the average of 5 extrovert students of 35. Then the 4 students selected for the interview were classified into high or low.

Additional Information: Belajar matematika tidak hanya sekedar mempelajari angka, hitungan, dan rumus tetapi juga belajar agar kita dapat berpikir dan bertindak secara logis, tersusun, dan sistematis. Termasuk juga melatih beberapa kemampuan matematik contohnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah. Kemampuan ini biasanya dilatih dengan soal yang disajikan dalam bentuk cerita yang kontekstual dan menyangkut kehidupan sehari-hari. Masih kurangnya siswa siswi di Indonesia melatih kemampuan ini, termasuk penulis, maka peneliti tertarik untuk mencari tahu dan mengukur kemampuan pemecahan masalah bila ditinjau dari tipe kepribadian. Peneliti menggunakan klasifikasi tahapan pemecahan masalah menurut teori Polya. Metode yang digunakan yaitu deskriptif kualitatif dan dilaksanakan di SMP Tarsisius 1 Kebon Jeruk. Dari hasil tes dan wawancara, kedua tipe kepribaidan tidaklah menunjukkan hasil yang cukup baik, yang menghasilkan rata-rata 5 siswa introvert sebesar 45 sedikit lebih besar dari rata-rata 5 siswa ekstrovert yang sebesar 35. Lalu 4 siswa yang terpilih wawancara digolongkan kedalam kemampuan tinggi atau rendah dan hasilnya hanya ada 1 siswa dengan kemampuan pemecahan masalah tinggi.
