Abstract

The polemic about the establishment of places of worship in Cilegon is a problem that has never been fully resolved. Minority communities, as a second-class group, in their efforts to realize religious freedom, must submit to the ruling community, namely hardline Islamic groups who firmly oppose the presence of Christian groups. The segmentation of Cilegon society which is divided into three groups has given rise to a differentiation of views towards the presence of Christians in Cilegon. The understanding of plurality has not yet been fully realized in the current living conditions of the people of Cilegon. The results of this research show that the key informant as a Catholic minority in Cilegon has never received any discriminatory action as of the time this article was written, Dodi as the key informant has actually received positive reception and has never been harassed regarding his religion. This reality shows that the building of pluralism in Cilegon society towards the Christian minority group has been built, it just requires deeper sharpening so that society can fully accept the presence of Christian identity in Cilegon.
