Abstract

Theory about correlation science generic skills and cognitive ability has already widely founded, but unsubstantiated by experiment data, therefore this study conducted to determine their correlation through simple practical work of Diffusion and Osmosis at SMA Negeri 1 Ciruas. The method used in this study was descriptive method. Research subjects were 29 students class XI. The result of this study obtained from the multiple-choice test, student worksheets, and observation sheet. In this study the achievement of student’s science generic skills focused on eight aspects. The results showed that there were 65,5% students get the value of science generic skills at a very high category, with an average value 80,6. The percentage’s average of score student’s science generic skills on direct observation aspect was 92,7% (very high), indirect observation was 96,5% (very high), consciousness scale was 77.4% (high), modeling was 71,4% (high), logic framework was 77,2% (high), Causation was 95,7% (very high), logic inference was 90,2% (very high), and establish the concept was 45% (approximately). Percentage of student’s cognitive ability coming out at 62% students included a very high category with an average value 84. Based on calculations using the Pearson correlation technique, obtained the correlation value 0.696, which indicates that there was a fairly strong correlation between student’s science generic skills and cognitive ability. Additional Information: Teori mengenai hubungan keterampilan generik sains dan kemampuan kognitif sudah banyak ditemukan, namun belum pernah dibuktikan kebenarannya berdasarkan data percobaan, sehingga pelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan keduanya melalui kegiatan praktikum sederhana Difusi dan Osmosis di SMA Negeri 1 Ciruas. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian deskriptif. Subjek penelitian 29 siswa kelas XI. Hasil penelitian ini diperoleh dari tes pilihan ganda, lembar kerja siswa, dan lembar observasi. Pada penelitian ini pencapaian keterampilan generik siswa difokuskan pada delapan aspek keterampilan generik sains. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 65,5% siswa yang mencapai nilai keterampilan generik sains pada kategori sangat tinggi, dengan nilai rata-rata 80,6. Persentase rata-rata keterampilan generik sains siswa pada aspek pengamatan langsung mencapai 92,7% (sangat tinggi), pengamatan tidak langsung 96,5% (sangat tinggi), kesadaran skala 77,4% (tinggi), pemodelan 71,4% (tinggi), kerangka logika 77,2% (tinggi), sebab akibat 95,7% (sangat tinggi), inferensi logika 90,2% (sangat tinggi), dan membangun konsep 45% (kurang). Persentase Kemampuan kognitif siswa mencapai 62% siswa yang termasuk ke dalam kategori sangat tinggi dengan nilai rata-rata 83,7. Berdasarkan perhitungan menggunakan teknik korelasi pearson didapatkan nilai korelasi 0,696, yang menunjukan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang tinggi antara keterampilan generik sains dan kemampuan kognitif siswa.
