Abstract

The research is motivated by the students’ difficulties in solving problems of a two-variables linear equation system in the form of story problems accompanied by the application of substitution and elimination methods. A learning design of two-variables linear equation system was created to address the problem and facilitate students through contextual teaching and learning. This research aims to comprehend how the context of buying and selling activities and a hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT) can aid in learning two-variables linear equation system through contextual teaching and learning. The research method used is design research. The essential characteristic of design research is the cycle. There are two cycles in this research. The research subjects for the first cycle (preliminary teaching) included 28 students from class 8.1 of Madrasah Sanawiah alMubarok. In this cycle, the first HLT is being tested to observe students as they progress through the learning trajectory. The revised HLT will be implemented in the second cycle (teaching experiment). The research subjects for the second cycle included 33 students from class 8.3 of Madrasah Sanawiah al-Mubarok. The obtained data are analyzed qualitatively. The results of the retrospective analysis indicate that the use of buying and selling activity contexts can facilitate students’ understanding of how the two-variables linear equation system is applied to solve related problems. According to the retrospective analysis results, (1) using context of buying and selling activities can aid students in comprehending how to apply the two-variables linear equation system to solve related problems; (2) the HLT in learning the two-variables linear equation system through contextual teaching and learning includes learning objectives, activities that occur during learning, and student answer hypotheses. The learning trajectory used includes making meaningful connections; engaging in significant activities; achieving high standards; self-regulated learning; nurturing and fostering student personalities; critical and creative thinking; collaboration; authentic assessment.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kesulitan siswa dalam mengerjakan soal sistem persamaan linear dua variabel (SPLDV) yang berupa soal cerita yang disertai dengan penerapan metode substitusi dan eliminasi. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, dirancanglah desain pembelajaran SPLDV yang mampu memfasilitasi siswa melalui contextual teaching and learning (CTL). Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui penggunaan konteks kegiatan jual beli dan hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT) dalam pembelajaran SPLDV melalui CTL. Metode penelitian yang digunakan ialah penelitian desain. Karakteristik esensial penelitian desain ialah siklus. Penelitian ini terdiri atas dua siklus. Subyek penelitian pada siklus kesatu (pengajaran awal) melibatkan 28 siswa kelas 8.1 Madrasah Sanawiah al-Mubarok. Pada siklus ini, HLT kesatu diujicobakan untuk melihat siswa melewati lintasan pembelajaran. HLT revisian akan diterapkan pada siklus kedua (uji coba pengajaran). Subyek penelitian pada siklus kedua melibatkan 33 siswa kelas 8.3 Madrasah Sanawiah al-Mubarok. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara kualitatif. Hasil analisis retrospektif menunjukkan bahwa (1) penggunaan konteks kegiatan jual beli dalam pembelajaran SPLDV melalui CTL dapat membantu siswa memahami bagaimana SPLDV diterapkan untuk menyelesaikan masalah yang terkait; (2) HLT dalam pembelajaran SPLDV melalui CTL memuat tujuan pembelajaran, aktivitas yang terjadi saat pembelajaran, dan hipotesis jawaban siswa. Learning trajectory yang digunakan meliputi melakukan hubungan yang bermakna; melakukan kegiatan-kegiatan yang signifikan; mencapai standar yang tinggi; belajar yang diatur sendiri; mengasuh dan memelihara pribadi siswa; berpikir kritis dan kreatif; bekerja sama; penilaian otentik.
