Abstract
The objective of this research is to know about kinds of category shifts found in the translation of children’s story book Aaron and the Magic Apple. The subject of this research is bilingual children’s story book entitled Aaron and the Magic Apple. The author was Arleen Amidjaja. Published by PT Bhuana Ilmu Populer. Published in 2012. This research employed qualitative research approach with content analysis method. The result of the analysis shows that: (1) the researcher found translation shift as many as 37 data. The researcher used Newmark’s theory about translation. There are 4 kinds categories according to Newmark’s theory. The researcher found 3 kinds categories translation shift in the book Aaron and the Magic Apple: first shift, third shift and fourth shift. (2) The data that found most of the category shift is fourth shift that occured by lexical gap and incompatibility word from source language to target language as many as 13 data. Next, category shift is first shift that occured by change from plural into singular noun as many as 8 data. There is no category third shift in the book Aaron and the Magic Apple. (3) Translation shift occured by difference of cultural and structure grammatical from source language English with target language Indonesian.
