Abstract

The purposes of this research are to investigate the process of implementing project-based learning in teaching speaking skill, the factors which stimulates students to speak while using Project-based Learning and the responses of student towards the implementation of project-based learning. The study was carried out at the Tenth grade majoring at Hospital 1 in Insan Mulia Vocational High School a qualitative case study research was applied in this study. The participants of the research were an English teacher and 29 students at tenth grade majoring at Hospitality 1 in Insan Mulia Vocational High School. The data were collected from non-participant observation, unstructured interview and questionnaire. In analyzing data the researcher used procedures namely: data reduction, data display and conclusion/drawing verification. The finding of this research show that the English teacher teaches speaking by implemented Project-based Learning model. The interviews’ result also showed that the teacher managed all of the procedures steps in implementing the Project-based Learning in teaching speaking skill. It is not only used the steps of Project-based Learning, but it also the using other technique (Discussion Technique) to supports student more active. The second finding shows that the factor which stimulate students to speak by using Project-based Learning are discussion technique and learning media and the third finding showed the responses of student toward the implementation of Project-based Learning in teaching speaking, the result of the students responses showed if the PjBL help them to speak and confident to speak English.The researcher concluded that the implementation of Project-based Learning can help the student to learn speaking skill even though the student faces some challenges when doing the project.

Additional Information: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki proses penerapan pembelajaran berbasis proyek dalam pengajaran keterampilan berbicara, faktor-faktor yang merangsang siswa untuk berbicara saat menggunakan Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek dan tanggapan siswa terhadap penerapan pembelajaran berbasis proyek. Penelitian dilakukan pada kelas X jurusan Rumah Sakit 1 SMK Insan Mulia, penelitian studi kasus kualitatif diterapkan dalam penelitian ini. Partisipan penelitian ini adalah seorang guru bahasa Inggris dan 29 siswa kelas sepuluh jurusan Perhotelan 1 di SMK Insan Mulia. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi non partisipan, wawancara tidak terstruktur dan kuesioner. Dalam menganalisis data peneliti menggunakan prosedur yaitu: reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan/verifikasi. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru bahasa Inggris mengajar berbicara dengan menerapkan model Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek. Hasil wawancara juga menunjukkan bahwa guru mengatur seluruh langkah prosedur dalam menerapkan Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek dalam pengajaran keterampilan berbicara. Tidak hanya menggunakan langkah-langkah Project-based Learning, namun juga menggunakan teknik lain (Teknik Diskusi) untuk mendukung siswa lebih aktif. Temuan kedua menunjukkan bahwa faktor yang merangsang siswa untuk berbicara dengan menggunakan Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek adalah teknik diskusi dan media pembelajaran dan temuan ketiga menunjukkan tanggapan siswa terhadap penerapan Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek dalam pengajaran berbicara, hasil dari siswa tanggapan menunjukkan jika PjBL membantu mereka berbicara dan percaya diri berbicara bahasa Inggris. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek dapat membantu siswa untuk mempelajari keterampilan berbicara meskipun siswa menghadapi beberapa tantangan ketika mengerjakan proyek.
