Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the understanding of concepts on flat-sided space building material based on APOS Theory (Action, Process, Object and Scheme) in each ability of students in class IX SMP Negeri 1 Ciruas. This research uses descriptive qualitative method by collecting data through tests and interviews. The subjects of this study were students of class IX-C SMP Negeri 1 Ciruas. The data analysis technique was carried out in 3 ways, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the level of understanding of students' mathematical concepts varied in each ability. Students who have high initial math ability have good concept understanding skills in solving flat-sided space problems and are able to fulfill all stages of APOS theory starting from the action, process, object and scheme stages. Meanwhile, students who have medium initial mathematics ability have poor concept understanding ability in solving flat-sided space problems and do not fully fulfill the stages of APOS theory because they only fulfill the action and process stages, and have not fulfilled the object and scheme stages. Meanwhile, students who have low initial mathematical ability have poor concept understanding skills in solving flat-sided space problems because they are only able to solve action stage problems and have not fulfilled the process, object and scheme stages.

Additional Information: Tujuan pada penelitian ini yaitu mendeskripsikan pemahaman konsep pada materi bangun ruang sisi datar berdasarkan Teori APOS (Aksi, Proses, Objek dan Skema) pada tiap kemampuan siswa kelas IX SMP Negeri 1 Ciruas. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan mengumpulkan data melalui tes dan wawancara. Subjek penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas IX-C SMP Negeri 1 Ciruas. Adapun teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan 3 cara yakni reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pemahaman konsep matematika siswa berbeda-beda pada tiap kemampuan. Siswa yang memiliki kemampuan awal matematika tinggi memiliki kemampuan pemahaman konsep yang baik dalam menyelesaikan masalah bangun ruang sisi datar dan mampu memenuhi semua tahapan teori APOS mulai dari tahap aksi, proses, objek dan skema. Sedangkan siswa yang memiliki kemampuan awal matematika sedang memiliki kemampuan pemahaman konsep yang kurang baik dalam menyelesaikan masalah bangun ruang sisi datar dan tidak memenuhi tahapan teori APOS sepenuhnya karena hanya memenuhi tahap aksi dan proses, serta belum memenuhi tahap objek dan skema. Adapun siswa yang memiliki kemampuan awal matematika rendah memiliki kemampuan pemahaman konsep yang buruk dalam menyelesaikan masalah bangun ruang sisi datar karena hanya mampu menyelesaikan masalah tahap aksi dan belum memenuhi tahap proses, objek dan skema.
