Abstract

This research aims to find out how the process of the use of nursery rhymes improves young learners’ English listening skills, to find out the result of the use of nursery rhymes to improve young learners’ English listening skills and to discover why nursery rhymes can improve young learners’ English listening skills. This research was conducted at the elementary school level, which is in the fourth grade of SDN Tunjung 1. This research was classroom action research with two cycles and using quantitative and qualitative design. The pre-test is given to students before treatment, while the post-test is given after treatment in each cycle. The data analysis is conducted by calculating the mean score of each pre-test and post-test in each cycle with 75 KKM score. As a result, the pre-test mean score in the first meeting of cycle I was 78,7, while the post-test in the second meeting of cycle I was 83,5. Then, the pre-test mean score in the first meeting of cycle II was 80, while the post-test in the second meeting of cycle II was 88,7. The data shows students’ improvement in each cycle. There are 78,26% of students who passed KKM in the pre-test and post-test of cycle I, 82,60% of students who passed KKM in the pre-test of cycle II, and 86,95% of students who passed KKM in the post-test of cycle II. Based on the result, the students show improvement in using nursery rhymes to learn English listening skills in the classroom.

Penelitian ini dilakukan pada tingkat sekolah dasar yaitu kelas IV SDN Tunjung 1. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas dengan dua siklus dan menggunakan desain kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Pre-test diberikan kepada siswa sebelum perlakuan, sedangkan post-test diberikan setelah perlakuan pada setiap siklusnya. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menghitung rata-rata skor setiap pre-test dan post-test pada setiap siklus dengan skor 75 KKM. Hasilnya, nilai rata-rata pre-test pada pertemuan pertama siklus I adalah 78,7, sedangkan nilai rata-rata post-test pada pertemuan kedua siklus I adalah 83,5. Kemudian nilai rata-rata pre-test pada pertemuan pertama siklus II sebesar 80, sedangkan nilai rata-rata post-test pada pertemuan kedua siklus II sebesar 88,7. Data tersebut menunjukkan adanya peningkatan siswa pada setiap siklusnya. Terdapat 78,26% siswa yang tuntas KKM pada pre-test dan post-test siklus I, 82,60% siswa yang tuntas KKM pada pre-test siklus II, dan 86,95% siswa yang tuntas. lulus KKM pada post-test siklus II. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, siswa menunjukkan peningkatan dalam menggunakan lagu anak-anak untuk mempelajari keterampilan mendengarkan bahasa Inggris di kelas.
