Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out whether the use of hand puppet had substantial effect on students’ speaking skill at eighth grade of SMPN 14 kota Serang. This study uses a quasi-experimental design and a quantitative methodology. There were two classes in the class: the experimental class and the control class. The eighth-grade students at SMPN 14 Kota Serang in the academic year 2023–2024 make up the research population consist of eight class (VIII A, VIII B, VIII C, VIII D, VIII E, VIII F, VIII G, and VIII H). The sample of this research was VIII G as control class and VIII H as experimental class the number of the students is 58. A speaking test was used to gather the data (pre-test and post-test). The results of the data analysis showed that, by using hand puppets as a speaking teaching medium, there was a significant difference in the students' speaking ability. The fact that sig. (2-tailed) was 0.007 confirms it.

Additional Information: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan boneka tangan mempunyai pengaruh besar terhadap keterampilan berbicara siswa di kelas delapan SMPN 14 kota Serang. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain eksperimen semu dan metodologi kuantitatif. Ada dua kelas di kelas tersebut: kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Siswa kelas VIII SMPN 14 Kota Serang tahun ajaran 2023–2024 yang menjadi populasi penelitian terdiri dari delapan kelas (VIII A, VIII B, VIII C, VIII D, VIII E, VIII F, VIII G, dan VIII H). Sampel penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII G sebagai kelas kontrol dan VIII H sebagai kelas eksperimen dengan jumlah siswa 58. Tes berbicara digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data (pre-test dan post-test). Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa dengan menggunakan boneka tangan sebagai media pengajaran berbicara, terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada kemampuan berbicara siswa. Fakta bahwa sig. (2-tailed) adalah 0,007 menegaskannya.
