Abstract

This research aimed to find out the effect of the task-based language teaching (TBLT) method on reading comprehension skills at eighth grade of SMP PGRI Walantaka Serang. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was the eighth-grade students of SMP PGRI Walantaka Serang. There are 42 students in the entire second-year class. Each class has 24 and 18 students. The researcher used total sampling to choose the sample based on the number of populations in the study. SPSS version 25 software was used to analyze the data's reliability, normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis. The t-test result showed that the Sig (2-tailed) was 0.000 which means < 0.05 so, it can be concluded that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, which means that there was a significant effect of using the task-based language teaching method on reading comprehension skills at the eighth grade of SMP PGRI Walantaka Serang.
