Abstract
The continuously increasing use of wood for living has resulted in the deforestation of forest land in Indonesia. The high level of wood production is also in line with the increase in waste from wood industries which, if not utilized, could become an environmental problem. To overcome this, wood industry wastes have the potential to be used as a composite material to replace raw wood. This research aims to produce particleboard composites with sengon wood waste and apus bamboo filler as alternative raw materials for making furniture. The composite made contains 29% PVAc adhesive, 10% epoxy resin, 1% steel wool fiber, and 60% wood and bamboo particles, varying the ratio of sengon wood: apus bamboo to (60:0), (30 :30), and (0:60). Analysis of optimal results from the experiment was carried out using the Multi Response Performance Index (MRPI) weighting method. The characteristics observed include density, thickness swelling, water absorption, hardness, and flexural strength according to SNI 03-2105-2006 standards. The best results are obtained on particleboard with variations in the particle filler ratio of 60% bamboo and 0% wood, with density values, thickness swelling percentage, water absorption, hardness, and flexural strength respectively 0.64 g/cm3, 7.11%, 62.85%, 33.67 shore D, and 19.05 kgf/cm2. The results of the density and percentage of thickness swelling from the three filler ratio variations are 0.44 - 0.64 g/cm3 and 7.11% - 7.85% respectively. This value meets the SNI 03-2105-2006 standard.

Additional Information: | Penggunaan bahan kayu untuk kehidupan yang secara terus menerus meningkat telah mengakibatkan deforestasi lahan hutan di Indonesia. Tingginya produksi kayu juga sejalan dengan meningkatnya limbah sisa pengolahan dari bahan baku kayu yang jika tidak dimanfaatkan dapat menjadi permasalahan lingkungan. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, limbah-limbah sisa memiliki potensi dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan material komposit pengganti kayu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan komposit papan partikel dengan filler limbah kayu sengon dan bambu apus sebagai bahan baku alternatif pembuatan furniture. Komposit yang dibuat mengandung 29% perekat PVAc, 10% resin epoksi, 1% serat steel wool, dan 60% partikel kayu maupun bambu yang divariasikan rasio kayu sengon (KS): bambu apus (BA) menjadi (60:0), (30:30), dan (0:60). Analisis hasil optimal dari percobaan dilakukan dengan metode pembobotan Multi Response Performance Index (MRPI). Karakteristik yang diamati meliputi kerapatan, pengembangan tebal, daya serap air, kekerasan, dan keteguhan lentur menurut standar SNI 03-2105-2006. Hasil terbaik didapatkan pada papan partikel dengan variasi rasio filler partikel 60% BA dan 0% KS yaitu nilai kerapatan, persentase pengembangan tebal, serapan air, kekerasan, dan keteguhan lentur masing-masing 0,64 g/cm3, 7,11%, 62,85%, 33,67 shore D, dan 19,05 kgf/cm2. Hasil kerapatan dan persentase pengembangan tebal dari ketiga variasi rasio filler masing-masing 0,44 – 0,64 g/cm3 dan 7,11% - 7,85%.
