Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyse the impacts of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) on Junior High School English Teachers Competences. Further, it analyses the process and the response of Continuing Professional Development Program through English Learning Activity for teachers. It also analyses the problems faced by English Teachers when implementing this program. In doing so, this study involved the participants of Junior High School English Teacher’s Forum of Pandeglang Regency. This study is a qualitative study and the data have been gathered by conducting Triangulation of Data Collecting Technique; Observation, Interview, and Documentation. The results indicated that the CPD program is good and intend to be useful. The participants were facilitated by the tutor to evaluate and give feedback. They also got modules to improve their competences in teaching. However, in 2015, the teachers got 52.06 for the average score in the teachers’ competency test. That result is still under the standard criteria of 2015 where the teachers should accomplish the minimum score of 75. The expectation of the program, the teachers are being able to get passing grade score in Teacher Competency Test (UKG) as well. The research implies that the CPD has potential and hopes in supporting teachers’ professional development. There are some problems that the teachers face: the distance from the school to the training location is too far (face-to-face mode), the teachers can’t utilize the ICT tool in the program for practicing because it’s not using online mode, the time span between training is too long, and some of them did not get the information of the continuation and evaluation of the program. The suggestions are proposed to focus on promoting CPD as a professional development, the program is more interactive and as requested with the teachers need, and the teachers have to join the program to enhance their ability in teaching and learning.
