Abstract

This research was carried out to improve the students’ descriptive text writing through environmental media at the seventh grade of SMP Madinatul Hadid Cilegon in the 2013/2014 academic year. The subject of this research was seven D class. It consisted of 37 students. The research method was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The classroom action research design applied in this research was a collaborative classroom action research. The researcher collaboratived with the English teacher of seventh grade at SMP Madinatul Hadid Cilegon as an observer and collaborator. The research was conducted by following Hopkins model with the following procedures of the action research: planning, acting/observing, and reflecting. The research was conducted in two cycle. Each cycle consisted of two meetings. The data were gathered through observation sheet, documentation, and writing test. The result of the research showed that there was improvement of the students’ descriptive text writing. It could be seen at the students’ mean score from pre cycle until last cyle. The students’ mean score of the pre test was 46,45. The students’ mean score in the first cycle was 59,06, and the students’ mean score in the second cycle was 73,40. Beside that, there were 62,23% students joined the class anthusiastically in the first cycle and 82,23% students joined the class anthusiastically in the second cycle. The class condition during teaching learning process was also quite good. In conclusion, environmental media could improve students’ descriptive text writing and it could increase students’ interest in studying descriptive text writing.
