Abstract

This study aims to: (a) determine whether there is a significant difference in the science literacy skills of male students with PBL, female students with PBL, male students with DL, and female students with DL, (b) determine the effectiveness of the PBL model in improving science literacy skills in terms of students' gender. This study uses a postpositivist research paradigm and quantitative approach, and uses a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design model. The data analysis technique used was Kruskal-Wallis test with independent k-sample and N-Gain. The sample of this study was 48 students in class XI IPA at SMAN 1 Ciruas in the 2023/2024 school year. The research instruments used were interviews, documentation, and science literacy tests. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the female experimental group. The effectiveness of the application of the Problem Based Learning model in the female gender was 78.5% (effective), while in the male gender it was 23.83% (ineffective). The Problem Based Learning model can be recommended to educators to improve physics science literacy skills, especially in classes containing female students or classes with a majority of female students.
