Abstract
Detergents are widely used as washers, namely to clean equipment in industry and households. Laundry services usually use detergent as the main ingredient. Detergents contain hazardous components which can cause environmental pollution. The characteristics of the detergent components used in this research are anionic surfactants, one way to overcome this problem is by using the activated sludge method. This study aims to obtain the values of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Total Suspended Solid (TSS) and pH from the influence of aeration and activated sludge mass and their optimum conditions. This study used a sample of laundry waste originating from a laundry service at the Gerogol housing complex. The methodology of this research is to make liquid media and then make activated sludge followed by detergent waste treatment, after which COD, BOD, pH, TSS and surfactant tests are carried out. Under optimum conditions, the COD value obtained was 26.45 mg/L, BOD was 12.1 mg/L, TSS was 18.4 mg/L, and pH was 7.29. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of reducing COD was 91.88%, BOD 75.30%, TSS 57.14, and pH 8.41%. The longer the aeration time, the lower the COD, BOD, TSS, pH, and surfactant values. The more mud mass the COD, BOD, and pH values decrease, while the TSS value increases
