Abstract

This research aimed to find out if English debate technique had a large influence on the students’ speaking skill in the Eleventh Grade at SMA Daar el-Qolam. The researcher adopted a quantitative, quasi-experimental methodology in this study. The sample size for this study was calculated using 125 students from the eleventh grade at SMA Daar el-Qolam Islamic Boarding School. The study used a sample size of 25 students from each of two classes: an experimental class and a control class. The samples were selected by simple cluster random. The t-test value (3.052) was found to be higher than the t-table value (2.069) in support of the hypothesis. This indicated that the competing explanation was accepted. Therefore, it is reasonable to infer that the English debate technique significantly influenced the students’ speaking skill of SMA Daar el-Qolam eleventh-grade. The primary audience for this study were educators, who can use it as a reference while instructing students in English language skills, in particular in the area of public speaking through English debate. Through this technique of learning, students can develop their English language skills and analytical and creative thinking abilities.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah teknik debat bahasa Inggris mempunyai pengaruh yang besar terhadap keterampilan berbicara siswa di kelas sebelas di SMA Daar el-Qolam. Peneliti mengadopsi metodologi kuantitatif dan eksperimen semu dalam penelitian ini. Ukuran sampel untuk penelitian ini dihitung dengan menggunakan 125 siswa kelas sebelas di Pesantren SMA Daar el-Qolam. Penelitian ini menggunakan jumlah sampel sebanyak 25 siswa dari masing-masing dua kelas: kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Sampel dipilih secara cluster random sederhana. Nilai t-hitung (3,052) ditemukan lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan nilai t-tabel (2,069) yang mendukung hipotesis. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penjelasan bersaing diterima. Oleh karena itu, masuk akal untuk menyimpulkan bahwa teknik debat bahasa Inggris secara signifikan mempengaruhi keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas sebelas SMA Daar el-Qolam. Sasaran utama penelitian ini adalah para pendidik, yang dapat menggunakannya sebagai referensi saat memberikan pengajaran keterampilan bahasa Inggris kepada siswa, khususnya dalam bidang berbicara di depan umum melalui debat bahasa Inggris. Melalui teknik pembelajaran ini, siswa dapat mengembangkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris serta kemampuan berpikir analitis dan kreatif.
