Abstract

This research was aimed to obtain empirical evidence of the effectiveness of using picture series toward students’ writing skill of recount text. To get the further information about the result, this research also tried to find out how well picture series work on students’ writing skill of recount text. The method used in this research was a quantitative method. The design was a quasi experimental study and the primary instrument of this research was test. The samples were taken from the tenth grade students of SMAN 5 Kota Serang by using purposive sampling. The total sample of this study was 60 students, which are 35 students as experimental class while 30 students as controlled class. The calculation of this research was conducted though SPSS 22. The test of hypothesis proved that sig. 2 tailed (p) was 0.049 while alpha (α) was 0.05. In other words, p < α. It meant that the Ho (Null Hypothesis) was rejected and Ha (Alternative Hypothesis) was accepted. It proved that there was a positive effect of picture series toward students’ writing skill of recount text. Furthermore, Cohen’s formulation which was calculated in order to see the effect size of picture series result was 0.49. It meant that the effect of this treatment was modest.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan mendapatkan bukti empiris efektivitas dalam menggunakan gambar berseri terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa siswi dalam teks recount. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana gambar berseri dapat memengaruhi kemampuan menulis siswa siswi dalam teks recount. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif. Desain yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimental dan instrument utama yang digunakan adalah tes. Sampel dalam penelitian ini merupakan siswa siswi kelas sepuluh SMAN 5 Kota Serang dan untuk teknik sampling, peneliti menggunakan teknik cluster sampling. Total sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 60 siswa dimana 30 siswa merupakan kelas ekperimen dan 30 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol. Penghitungan di penelitian ini dihitung menggunakan program SPSS 22. Tes hipotesis menunjukkan bahwa sig. 2 tailed (p) adalah 0.049 sementara alpha (α) adalah 0.05. Dengan kata lain, p < α. Hal ini berarti bahwa Ho (Hipotesis null) ditolak dan Ha (Hipotesis alternative) diterima. Ini membuktikan bahwa terdapat efek positif dari gambar berseri terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks recount. Selain itu, rumus Cohen yang digunakan untuk mengetahui efek yang dimiliki dari gambar berseri adalah 0.49, ini menunjukkan bahwa gambar berseri memiliki pengaruh yang rendah.
